Description
During the original opening sequence of The Simpsons that aired from December 1989 till May 2009, when Maggie is scanned at the supermarket her price comes to $847.63. This was the calculated average monthly cost for raising a child in the United States in 1989.
After the 19th season the opening sequence was changed with the transition to High Definition. In the new opening, Maggie is scanned and the price doubles from $243.26 to $486.52 meaning that she only costs $243.26 now.
It is currently unknown what the significance of the new price is, if any.
